Folk ensemble of song and dance “LEMKOVYNA”
The choir's life-affirming singing has been heard for more than 50 years — in concert halls, television and radio broadcasts, in Ukraine and abroad. “Lemkovyna” continues to carry the cultural heritage of its people with dignity through generations, enriching the Ukrainian music and song tradition
History and creative achievements
The folk ensemble of song and dance “Lemkovyna” was organized in 1969 in Lviv. The first artistic director and conductor of the choir was the elder of the Lviv conducting school Roman Kokotailo.
In 1984, the chapel took part in the filming of the film “Oh My Verche, Versha”, and in 1987 — the film “Lemkovyna Sings”, created by order of the Society for Cultural Relations with Abroad “Ukraine”.
In 1986—1987, Melodia released the first major album of the ensemble “Lemkovyna Sings”, and in 1991 — the record “Play Me, Buzzer!”. In 2005, these recordings were reissued on CD.
Concert activities
The team performed in many regions of Ukraine, as well as in Germany, Poland, Slovakia, Estonia.
In total, the ensemble gave more than 1000 concerts.
Repertory
The basis of the repertoire is Lemkov folk songs in the treatment of classics of Ukrainian music: A.Kos-Anatolsky, E.Kozak, M.Kolesy, V.Flys, I.Maychyk, etc.
